Installing on UNIX Platforms

• You are not planning to use Express installation.

If you meet these conditions, you donot need to log in as

root to install theserver;

instead log in as the user account that the Administration Server will use.

However, you may still prefer to log in as

root,eventhoughyoumeetthe

conditions.

Unpacking the Files

To get the Enterprise Server files and unpack them, follow these steps:

Installing from an Netscape Enterprise Server CD

1. Put the Netscape Enterprise Server CD in the drive.

2. Change to the CD-ROM directory. For example:

cd /cdrom

3. Change to the directory on the CD labeled with your UNIX operating system.

For example:

cd solaris

4. Change to the installation directory. For example:

cd entprise

5. Copy the tar file from the CD to your home directory or a temporary

directory. For example:

cp ee60sol.tar /tmp/nesinstall

Copying the file may take a little time.

6. Change to the directory on your UNIX machine where you copied the file. For

example:

cd /tmp/nesinstall

NOTE

Untarring the file will cause the permissions of the destination directory to

bemodified so that applications canno longerwrite filesto it. Toavoid this

problem, untar the file in a directory where you can modify the

permissions.Forexample, instead of/tmp,useasubdirectoryunder/tmp,

for example, /tmp/nesinstall.
