The Red Hat Secure Web Server Getting Started Guide is intended to get you

This guide will show you how to install the included programs, as well as

the basic options forconﬁguring your Apache webserver. You will also be

walkedthrough the stepsnecessary toget both test andsigned certiﬁcates,

as well as how to install a certiﬁcate to use with your secure web server.

Afterreadingandfollowing thesteps inthis guide,your secureserverwill

be running using a test certiﬁcate. If you’ve followed our instructions for

requesting a certiﬁcate from the certiﬁcate authority of your choice, you’ll

be readyfor secure e-commerce as soon as your certiﬁcate arrives.

New featuresincluded inRed HatSecureWeb Serverversion 2.0include a

new version of Apacheas well as anew security module. The most signif-

icant new featurein version 1.3of the Apache web server is its support for

Dynamic SharedObjects (DSOs). DSO support makes it easierfor users to

compile andload other modulesinto their web server. The new version of

Apache also offers other improvements and bug ﬁxes.

Version 2.0 of the Red Hat Secure Web Server uses the mod ssl security

module for security instead of Apache-SSL. mod ssl is partially based on

Apache-SSL,buthasimprovedon itspredecessorinseveraldifferentways:
