Installing or Upgrading NetIQ eDirectory
on Windows
Use the following information to install or upgrade NetIQ eDirectory 8.8 on a Windows platform:
Section 3.1, “System Requirements,” on page 51
Section 3.2, “Prerequisites,” on page 52
Section 3.3, “Hardware Requirements,” on page 53
Section 3.4, “Forcing the Backlink Process to Run,” on page 54
Section 3.5, “Disk Space Check on Upgrading to eDirectory SP8 or later,” on page 54
Section 3.6, “Installing NetIQ eDirectory on Windows,” on page 54
IMPORTANT: NetIQ eDirectory 8.8 lets you install eDirectory for Windows without the Novell
Client. If you install eDirectory 8.8 on a computer already containing the Novell Client, eDirectory
uses the existing Client. For more information, see “Installing or Updating NetIQ eDirectory 8.8 on a
Windows Server” on page 55.
3.1 System Requirements
You must install eDirectory on one of the following platforms.
Windows Server 2008 (x64) (Standard/Enterprise/Data Center Edition) and its service packs
Windows Server 2008 R2 (Standard/Enterprise/Data Center Edition) and its service packs
Windows 2012 Server
Windows Server 2012 R2
IMPORTANT
You must use an account that has administrative rights to install eDirectory 8.8 SP8 on Windows
Server 2008 R2.
Windows desktop versions are not supported.
eDirectory also requires the following:
An assigned IP address
Administrative rights to the Windows server and to all portions of the eDirectory tree that
contain domain-enabled User objects. For an installation into an existing tree, you need
administrative rights to the Tree object so that you can extend the schema and create objects.
Refer to the OS recommended hardware requirements for your Windows server.
