NIS Agent
This section describes how to install and configure the NIS Agent.
Installation Prerequisites
The Synchronization Agent for UNIX/Linux Servers must be installed to provide
communications with the InSync Server, as detailed on page 3.
Before installing the NIS Agent, you should:
• establish whether the NIS software installed on your system is
configured to use the system password files, or its own password files
• set the environment variable for NISUPDATE as described below.
NISUPDATE Environment Variable
You will need to set the NISUPDATE environment variable to enable event
synchronization to password files.
The NISUPDATE environment variable is set in the .profile file for the UNIX
Synchronization Agent providing the transport mechanism. To set this variable,
specify the location of the password file and the appropriate command to
update the password file.
For example:
NISUPDATE=”cd /usr/etc/yp;make -f Makefile passwd”
